THE THUNDER TAME THE WILDCATS IN GAME 5
Big Game 5 Win for the Midget this afternoon in Ayton , it has been a rough series vs. the Normanby Wildcats but the Thunder found a way to WIN when it really counted. I was hoping I would have good news to share after today's game and I am happy to say I have Great news. The Midgets are once again WOAA Champions and are heading to the All Ontario Championships to defend their Title, never before has a team from Zurich won two consectutive OMHA Championships back to back.
The puck dropped on Game 5 this afternoon in Ayton at 4pm. Both teams started off strong wanting to be the first to put a goal up on the score board, Normanby put one in at 9:30 but then the Zurich defence shut the door on a couple of their top skaters. Greg Cooper scored the first goal for Zurich with a Top shelf slap shot from the point off a pass from Colton Becker and Jordan Brand while on the Power Play. Both teams were playing well defensively and both goal tenders were playing excellent making it very difficult for anyone to score. The Penalty minutes were also even with both teams logging 12 minutes per side. The score was still tied at the end of regulation time so in perfect Game 5 fashion the game went into a 10 minute sudden death Over time period. Zurich seemed to have the momentum and were doing really well getting the puck out of their own end, with only a little more than a minute left in the game Nick Laporte played the puck out of the corner and fed it out in front of the net to Colin Gingerich who was patiently waiting to finish the Wildcats off. GAME OVER!! They are bringing the WOAA Trophy Back to Zurich. Great Team effort we are all very proud of you. OMHA Final Series starts March the 6th @ 5pm vs. Manvers (In Bethany Ont.) Game 2 & 3 comes back here to Zurich on Sat. March 12th @6pm and Sat.March 19th @4pm.
