Zurich Thunder Midgets Win Game 1 and 2
Playdowns Begin, Game 1 and 2 are complete and the Midgets are off to great start. They began the series vs. Howick on Sunday and started off a little slow but soon picked up the pace to win Game one 5-1. Jordan Brand with 2 goals and 1 assist, Nick LaPorte with one goal and an assist and 1 goal a piece for Colin Gingerich and Kris Ducharme. They met again tonight for Game 2 here in Zurich and started off where they left off on Sunday. Netting 5 of the 8 goals for the night in the first period, it looked like the Thunder was on it's way to a very high scoreing game.
The points were shared across the roster with Brand, LaPorte and Gingerich grabbing 2 goals each, and Colton Becker and Kurtis Denomme helping out with one each also. Although Zurich gave up a couple of late goals in the third they managed to hang on to the lead throughout to end with a final score of 8 - 5. Unfortunately Zurich lost the flip for Home advantage in Game 3 so they are travelling back to Howick on Sunday for a 3pm game, and if necessary Game 4 is scheduled for Zurich next Wed. night. Wish them luck! The first team to earn 6 points moves on to the next round of playoffs which takes that team South to play Bothwell. Zurich has 4 points so far and another Win on Sunday will seal the deal and move them on to round two and the WOAA Semi Finals.
