IT'S A WRAP
The 2010 Annual Zurich Tournament is again finished for another season, it didn't quite end like I had hoped but thanks to my son very memorable.  For those that are wondering how he is I am happy to report that everything is fine, he received chest and shoulder Xrays and there are no breaks.  The injuries seem to be isolated to alot of soft tissue damage mostly in the left shoulder and into his ribs, but the Dr. gave him the green light to play as soon as he feels ready again.  To all the other injured players I hope everyone heals quickly and stays healthy too.  However back to the actual Hockey games, the Zurch Midgets played a great Tournament with 2 Wins and 1 lose.

Game 1 vs BCH on Wed. night Zurich took control early and they scored the first goal of the game at 1:49 left in the first, Goal goes to Jordan Brand , assisted by Colin Gingerich and Greg Cooper. Period #2 Gingerich netted two of his own assisted by Tony Mathonia, Nick Masse, & Kyle Rykman. To round out the score at 4 -0 Nick LaPorte scored his first of the tournament at 2:38 in the second assisted by Kris Ducharme and Drew Wood.  At the 4 minute mark of the third BCH managed to put one in the net but Zurich finished the game off with a nice break away goal by Braden Erb with only 30 seconds left in the game assisted by Brand and Cooper to end the game 5-1.  Game #2 Zurich faced a team from St.Mary's who seemed to be a much tougher team to beat, they scored the first goal at 7:16 in the second period but not long after the Zurich Captain LaPorte evened it up to end the second 1-1. Again the third period seems to be the teams best because again Laporte found the back of the net to give Zurich the lead assisted by Kris Ducharme and Kurtis Denomme. Then again Brand and Wood added one of their own to finish St.Mary's off 4-1. Going into Game 3 the Thunder was sitting in first place with a total of 8.5 points with the Tavistock team who they had yet to play with 8 points even. Which ironically enough set up game 3 as an A Final, unfortunately Zurich just didn't seem to have the same energy they did in Game 1 and 2 and came up short losing this one 8 - 1. I don't remember alot of details other than Drew Wood scored the only goal for Zurich to avoid giving Tavistock the shut out and we had a few more penalties in this game and maybe it's a good thing I had to leave before getting my hands on the game sheet so the penalty minutes on the stats will not be as up to date as it should be. That being said it was a great tournament and the organisers should be acknowledged again for doing a great job.

PS: Thank you to Jordan Brand for making sure Greg's equipment made it home tonight and thank you to all the team staff for doing everything they could to make Greg as comfortable as they could and acting so quickly.
