Thunder Knock Off Otters In OMHA ‘D’ Quarterfinals
After losing game one 5-4 the Zurich Bantam Rep squad battled back to take down the Teeswater Otters in 4 games to advance to the WOAA ‘D’ finals and OMHA ‘D’ quarterfinals vs first place Elma-Logan Wildcats. Game two was a tight 5-3 win in Zurich, followed by an exciting back and forth 3-2 win in Teeswater with the locals scoring with less than 3 minutes remaining for the victory. Then returned to Zurich to seal the deal 2-0 in game four. Scoring the goals were Tyler Merner and Mitch Finlay, assists went to Devon Steckle with 2, John Cooke and Jacob LaPorte with 1 each. Will Overholt notched his second consecutive shutout and league leading 7th of the season.
Head coach Pete Overholt was impressed with the strong team defensive play, dicipline and hard work. Tough guy Mack Hendrick will be back in the lineup vs the Wildcats after serving a two game suspension. The team will be prepared for game 1 in Zurich, Wed Feb 13 at 8:30 pm. It should be a good battle as the teams split the season series.
