PEEWEE'S CAPTURE 'A' CHAMPIONSHIP IN OVERTIME
The Zurich Peewee Rep squad won the 'A' championship in their home tournament with an exciting 3-2 overtime victory vs a strong Norwich team. It was an unforgettable feeling for players, coaches and everyone in attendance when defenseman Nathan King headmaned the puck from our own end and Tyler Merner tipped it up to Mitch Finlay to send him in on a breakaway that Finlay buried in the top corner with 17 seconds reamaining in OT to end the game. It was a tight defensive battle and a well deserved victory for the entire team, proving to themselves that hard work does pay off. The locals scored a goal in each or the first two periods by Finlay and John Cooke, assisted by Joey Mathonia and Finlay, before the persistant Norwich team scored two late third period goals to force a 5 min sudden death overtime period. Birthday boy Will Overholt was focused all game making several key saves in goal. Finlay was named MVP of the game. All coaching staff was very proud of the players for their effort in the Zurich Tournament. Hopefully this style of play can be carried over into the playoffs in January.
