The Zurich Bantam hockey team claimed the OMHA ‘E’ Championship with an exciting 3-2 win today over the Manvers Mustangs. It was the town’s 6th OMHA Crown since 1935. Th e Mustangs opened the scoring 3 minutes into the game, but the Thunder battled back to tie it up before the end of the first on a nice shot from Cody Merner assisted by Devon Steckle and Mitch Finlay. Matt Knight-Bedour scored half way through the 2nd on an unassisted end to end rush to give Zurich a 2-1 lead. The Zurich Bantam hockey team took one on the chin today in game 3 of the OMHA finals. They may have got caught being a little overconfident after winning the first two games and played this one a little tight with the anticipation of a possible win claiming the Ontario title in front of the home crowd. Several players played like individuals instead of a team and will have to play together to have success. Some undisciplined penalties were also taken. The Zurich Bantam Thunder hockey team is one victory away from an Ontario Championship after edging the Manvers Mustangs 6-5 near Peterborough on Sunday in game two of the OMHA ‘E’ finals. Three power play goals and a shorthanded marker proved to be the difference in a hard fought battle with an exciting finish. Zurich opened the scoring early on a nice deke by Matt Knight-Bedour from John Cooke. Manvers tied the score at 1 before Zurich broke the game open by the mid point of the game to take a 4-1 lead. The Manvers Mustangs defeated the Port Carling Thunder 3-0 this afternoon in the 6th and deciding game of the Ontario semi finals. The Zurich Bantams will now face the Mustangs in the OMHA finals beginning next weekend.

The Zurich Bantam's won their final WOAA League playoff game in exciting fashion this past week in Harriston. Matt Knight-Bedour set up Bryson Volochkov with 5 minutes remaining to tie the score at 2. Then on the power play with 8 seconds remaining Cody Merner notched the winner with a one timer on a nice set up pass from Knight-Bedour. Will Overholt picked up the win in goal, making some nice saves. It was a nice way to finish their league schedule out. The team will now practice hard to prepare for the OMHA finals against either Manvers or Port Carling beginning in the next couple weeks. ...
