Midget, 2014-2015 (Zurich Minor Hockey)

A shorthanded Midget Thunder squad was downed 3-0 by Seaforth to even their record at 1-1 in WOAA league play. It was only the second time all season the locals were held off the scoreboard. Wade Coombs was outstanding in goal making several highlight reel saves to keep the score respectable. The boys host Seaforth Monday night at 7:30 in Zurich.

The Zurich Midget Thunder edged the Walkerton Capitals 5-4 in WOAA group play. Travis Cressman and Cody Merner scored a pair each with Connor Brand picking up the other. Assists went to Elliot Paulger (2), Joe Mathonia (2), Bryson Volochkov (2), John Cooke (2), Jake Earle and Cressman. Will Overholt picked up the win in goal. The team heads to Seaforth tonight at 8:00 pm.

The TCDMA Rebels proved to be too much for our Zurich Midget Thunder, beating them 4-0 on home ice to knock them out of the 'DD-D' OMHA Playdowns. The Rebels were a solid team made up of mostly 3rd year players, where we are almost all 1st and 2nd year players. It was still a tough pill to swallow as this group of kids is accustomed to having playoff success with several players winning more than one OMHA Championship in the last few years, but ya can't win em all. With the jump up in class for ZMAA and having to compete against almalgamated centres in the OMHA playoffs, the task will be ...

After a 5-2 loss in Game 2 the Zurich Midget Thunder are on the ropes in the best of 5 series in the Quarter Finals of the OMHA 'DD-D' playoffs vs the TCDMHA Rebels. The first period was a tight one with each team exchanging goals before the Rebels scored late to take a 2-1 lead after one. The second was all Rebels as they scored three unanswered goals to go up 5-1 after two. The third period got a little chippy, the Thunder held strong scoring one, buts that's all they could manage. The TCDMHA Rebels silenced the Thunder 6-2 in game one of the OMHA DD-D quarter finals. The Rebels came out hard in the first catching the Thunder flat footed and took a 4-0 lead after one, although three of them were on the power play after a questionable 4 min head contact penalty. The Thunder actually battled back looking better in the final two frames, winning the second period 2-1, and tying the last two periods 2-2. We'll see later today in Zurich how the boys respond in game 2. Scoring Zurich goals were Mitch Finlay and Tyler Merner, Joe Mathonia picked up an assist.
