Midget Thunder Begin Playoffs With Win Over The Wildcats
After receiving a buy in the first round the Zurich Midget Thunder team began their quest for another OMHA championship with a 4-0 victory over visiting Elma-Logan, who knocked off Lucknow to advance to us. Due to lack of enough ‘D’ centre teams in Ontario, all ‘D’ centres were moved up in class to a ‘DD’ centres. So the task to even move on out of the WOAA will be a difficult one, but the boys feel that they are up for it after competing well with higher class teams in exhibition and tournament games throughout the season.

In game one Cody Merner opened up the scoring, connecting on a one-timer from Mitch Finlay and Devon Steckle. Netting the first of three 2nd period goals was Travis Cressman. from Bryson Volochkov and Connor Brand, next was Tyler Merner from John Cooke and Elliot Paulger, finishing out the scoring was Cody Merner with his 2nd of the game from Finlay and Steckle. Goaltender Will Overholt was once again stellar in between the pipes making many key saves to shut out the Wildcats for his very impressive 4th consecutive shut out. The game itself was fairly sloppy on both sides with the Thunder playing only as good as they had to for the win. We’ll see how the rest of the series plays out.
