Bantam Rep Claim WOAA 'D' Championship
The Zurich Bantam Rep team won the WOAA 'D' Championship Monday night with a close 3-1 win over Elma-Logan scoring an empty net goal in the final minute of play to secure the victory. It was a hard fought all around team effort playing some great defense and capitalizing on their offensive opportunities. John Cooke opened the scoring on a one timer from Devon Steckle and Jarett Oke. Other goalscorers were Mitch Finlay and Cooke, assists went to Connor Brand and Tyler Merner. Will Overholt made some key saves in goal for the locals. Other noteable players having strong games were Nathan King, Jacob LaPorte, Jake Earle, Travis Cressman, Elliot Paulger, Joe Mathonia and Mack Hendrick.
The boys now continue their WOAA Group Playdowns in the next few weeks while waiting to meet the winner of Creemore (south of Collingwood) and Woodville (East of Belleville) in the OMHA 'D' Championship series, most likely beginning March 16,17 weekend.
