MIDGETS IMPRESS EARLY
The Zurich Midget Rep team is off to an excellent start early in the season.  The boys have just come off two victories in two nights, they are really coming together as a team.

Here's a quick recap of our first five games; we started the season in Milverton winning 10-4, we lit up the scoreboard with many players having a multiple point night, Colin Gingerich and Connar McLean netting five points each.  It was a solid defensive effort, with Connor Adams sharp in goal.  We unfortunately lost Matt McAllister due to a broken wrist this game.  We wish him a speedy recovery and miss him on and off the ice.  It was awesome for our team to start the season with a victory on the road.  Our second game, we hosted a strong team from Drayton.  It was a very hard fought game, we had plenty of chances in the first period but ended up with an 8-3 loss. It was a tough debut for Brett McAllister between the pipes as he faced a lot of rubber and he didn't get much help in our end. He handled himself quite well and never gave up.  Our next game was against Blyth/Brussels, this was an extremely long night as both teams felt the impact of the new HEAD CONTACT rule. There was a steady stream to the penalty box, but when it was all done we came away with a very tough 2-1 loss.  It was an outstanding performance by Connor Adams in net. Thank you to the boys for not reaching 36 minutes in minor penalties or Coach Mark would have had a suspension.  The team displayed great character in our next game which took us to Monkton to face Elma Logan.   After a strong start we were still tied 0-0 at the end of the first.  The team pushed forward and we came home with a well deserved 5-2 victory, giving Brett McAllister his first midget win in goal and our team recording only three minor penalties. This game had strong performances at both ends of the rink by Jordan Brand, Colton Becker, Brett Laporte, and Kurtis Denomme.  Ben Cooke and Connar McLean have both showed improved confidence and are settling in nicely.  The next evening we hosted an improved Milverton team and after two periods we had a 3-2 lead. Through great teamwork we excelled in the third period and buried four more goals to win 7-2.  We were missing two key defencemen and had many players filling the empty spots.  Our defensive group lead by Nick Masse, Tony Mathonia and Josh King have blended well with first year midget defencemen Dylan Steckle, Michael Beierling and Clare Masse.  The defence have played very well, most nights not knowing who they are playing with.  Every defencemen has been impressive with and without the puck, special mention must go to Braden Erb for his initiative to step up and play strong defence as needed. The boys deserve a relaxing weekend before our next game, a road trip to Blyth.
We the coaching staff are very proud of every team member and all of their accomplishments so far early in the hockey season. Stay tuned for future updates.
