Tough Game 5 Loss for the THUNDER
The Thunder laced up their skates for the last time in the 2010/2011 Season this afternoon for Game 5 in the OMHA Finals, unfortunately I wish I had better news to share.  The Midget played to a very full standing room only crowd in Zurich this afternoon but came up a few goals short at the end of 45 Mins.  It was a hard fought series and a battle to the very end for both teams. The first 15 Mins. saw Manvers get out to a early lead on the score board 3 goals to 0 for Zurich.

The second period saw a few glimmers of hope when Zurich's Captain Nick LaPorte finally put the Thunder on the board with a goal at 9:26 assisted by Kurtis Denomme and Braden Erb. Then followed up close behind by a goal at 9:17 from defenseman Greg Cooper  unassisted, the momemtum had shifted and Zurich was within two and closing the gap.  Manvers had other plans and managed to get a few quick unanswered goals mid way through the second to try and put the game out of reach, ending the second with a 7 -2 lead.  Zurich continued to battle in the corners and worked really hard to get back in this game and it paid off when Jordan Brand asssited by LaPorte got Zurich's 3rd goal @ 8:46  and then again when Colin Gingerich scored @ 6:35 assisted by Brand.  The time was not on Zurich's side and the final 5 mins ran out too fast finishing the game 7-4.  The fans were great and the team deserves a round of applause for a great season and giving us a season to remember. Being I was keeping record of the stats this season I guess it is only fitting to summarize my final report with a few highlights. The Team had an amasing record of 41 GAMES PLAYED (Including Tournaments) 27 Wins, 12 Losses and 2 Ties. Highest points goes to the Captain Nick LaPorte with Total points earned 74 ( 50 Goals and 24 Assists) . Special mention goes from myself and all the other parents to the 4 players who are wrapping up their Zurich Minor Hockey Career this season Nick LaPorte, Josh Groot, Kris Ducharme and Greg Cooper.  It has been an unbelieveable 14 years of hockey but I wouldn't trade in those cold Arena seats and the long drives home from who knows where for anything else. I also wanted to Thank the Coaches and Staff for all the long hours volunteering your time and to the wonderful generous "Fan" who catered the meal after the game today.
